However, despite being of great use, it can be a bit annoying at times as it can make your scalp itchy, damage your hair, and/or make your hair feel like crunchy autumn leaves. Irrespective of the pros and the cons of hairspray, there is one negative aspect that might override all of the benefits: flaking.

It looks like you’ve got dandruff all over your shoulders and then you may have to deal with occasional stares from people, wondering if it’s dandruff or hairspray. Your hair needs to breathe and all that hairspray build-up won’t let it. If you’re someone who frequently uses it then getting a clarifying shampoo is necessary for you as it’d work as a detox for hair. There are many DIY remedies as well, such as adding baking soda to your regular shampoo. The end goal is to make sure your scalp is scrubbed clean.

Another thing that can lead to flaking is the use of post-wash products like conditioners and leave-in serum. If you have them on and then use the hairspray, the spray sits on it making it more prone to flaking.
